Team Century's Cody and Kyle Chivas were crowned the 2008 Yamaha Team of the Year of the Miller High Life Professional Tarpon Tournament Series Presented by Century Boats, this past weekend in Boca Grande, Florida – besting some of Florida's most seasoned tournament anglers.
Fishing as Team Salt Rock Grille/Pro Marine, the Chivas brothers, with team members Dan Munyon and Grant Johnston, caught nine tarpon during the five regular series events, taking first place during the Week 1 tournament, and adding a second place during Week 3.
Tournament victories are nothing new to the Belleair, Florida natives. Cody, a student at the University of Central Florida, and his younger brother, Kyle, who just graduated from Palm Harbor High School, won last season's Land O Lakes Wal-Mart FLW Redfish Series Eastern Division Team of the Year, including a second place finish in the series Clearwater stop, and a fifth place finish in the Titusville event.
The Chivas brothers grew-up fishing the inshore waters along Tampa/St. Pete in grade school, fishing from an aluminum Jon boat. They now run Century's 2202 Inshore, and were first introduced to the Century brand when they won a 1902 Inshore during the 2006 PTTS season. "We have been thoroughly impressed with the speed, performance, reliability and draft of our 2202 Inshore, and it's no surprise that our Century has contributed to our tournament success" says the older Chivas.
With its Team of the Year victory, Team Salt Rock Grille/Pro Marine won Yamaha's new F350 V-8 four-stroke outboard engine. During the 2008 season, the team won more than $88,000 in cash and prizes. The Chivas brothers now gear-up for next weekend's two-day Jim Beam Tarpon Cup Championship, featuring the top 25 teams from the series. |
