Tibor’s SpeedHandle Spool
It's a fly-fisherman's version of the dual-speed reel that's been popular with conventional big-game fishermen for years.
Jan 31, 2008

Fly-fishermen know that even large-arbor fly reels can have trouble keeping up with hard-charging species like tuna, tarpon, bonefish and billfish. But that's no longer an issue thanks to Tibor's SpeedHandle Spool, which allows anglers to increase the speed of their retrieve by up to one-third, eliminating problems caused when fast-running game fish double back. The new spool features the standard handle and incorporates an additional, decreased-diameter handle to the counterweight on the opposite side of the spool. The company recommends using the standard handle for long runs and deep dives, switching to the SpeedHandle when fish change direction and charge the boat. It's a fly-fisherman's version of the dual-speed reel that's been popular with conventional big-game fishermen for years.

The new spool is available as an option on new Tibor and Tibor QC reels and spools in the Riptide, Gulfstream and Pacific models. $49.95-$55 www.tiborreel.com
